Lynnea Hope Callison was born on October 31, 2008. We believed she was a healthy, perfect baby girl. When she was seven days old, we ended up taking her to the ER because she had stopped eating and was having a hard time breathing. That is when we learned that she had a severe congenital heart defect known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), which meant that the left side of her heart was "functionally inadequate." She had her first heart surgery when she was thirteen days old. She fought hard for 20 months before losing her battle with HLHS on July 5, 2010. During her lifetime, she had seven heart surgeries, nine heart catheterizations, she spent 303 days in the hospital, and 309 days at home. She also had countless smiles, giggles, and "wiggle, wiggle, wiggles."
